Travel to Cornwall and the campus
For more detailed travel advice see our Travel and Campus Guide.
The conference will be held at the University of Exeter’s Cornwall campus. PLEASE NOTE this campus is a 2-hour drive west of the University’s main campus so make sure your accommodation and travel are booked for the correct place! The nearest towns are Penryn and Falmouth.
Address: University of Exeter, Penryn Campus, Penryn, Cornwall TR10 9FE
Lat, long: 50.1724, -5.1243
Cornwall can be reached by plane (Newquay Airport), train from major centres (Great Western Rail from London Paddington), bus or car.
From Heathrow International airport (west London), catch the Heathrow Express train to London Paddington station, and from there catch the Great Western Rail (https://www.gwr.com) train towards Penzance (train leaves every hour until approx. 7pm). Change at Truro for a swift transfer to Falmouth/Penryn. It takes approx. 5 hours from London Paddington to Falmouth. If you arrive into London Paddington late at night, there is an overnight train (sleeper service) 6 days of the week on this same route (Paddington to Truro) but this will need to be booked ahead to ensure a sleeper cabin/seat.
The campus can be reached from Penryn and Falmouth by regular buses, train (plus a 20-minute walk), taxi and car (on site car parking charges apply).
Accommodation options
There are many options for accommodation in Falmouth or Penryn, but be sure to book early for the most options and deals as June gets very busy. More information on accommodation and locations can be found in our Accommodation and Catering Guide.
On-campus Accommodation
On-campus accommodation is available at a much-reduced rate: a booking link will follow soon! Click here for details.
Other considerations
Please be aware that international visitors may require a visa to take part in the conference. We cannot be responsible for this process or any costs incurred. We are happy to provide letters of support. If this is required, please email info@oceanspast.org or direct to Ruth Thurstan (r.thurstan@exeter.ac.uk) who will provide a letter of support from the local (UK) organisers. If you can send through a template with the details of what you require, this will help expedite the writing.
